In 2004 the highest representative for the Thai Buddhists in Sweden, Phramaha Boonthin Taosiri, visited Fredrika in Åsele kommun, Lapland. On a mountain with a panoramic view over forest, lakes and mountains he decided to build a Temple. Templet kommer att bli 400 m² stort med plats för 300 personer. I anslutning till templet kommer även fyra mindre tvåvåningshus att byggas. Dessa hus ska fungera som bostäder för övernattning samt vara en plats för meditation. När tempelbygget är klart kommer en konferensanläggning med plats för 800 personer att byggas. Den totala anläggningen blir det största thaibuddhistiska templet i Europa. Alla byggnader uppförs i svenskt trä med utsmyckning från Thailand. Som ett första steg lades en graverad stenplatta på plats hösten 2005 vid en grundstenssättningsceremoni som blev en symbolisk byggstart. Under 2006 genomfördes schakt- och sprängningsarbeten för framtida grundläggning av tempelbyggnad, anslutningsväg och fundament till en munkstaty. Statyn av munken Luang Poo Thuad placerades därefter på tempelberget. Statyn invigdes med en ceremoni sommaren 2006.
Den viktigaste statyn föreställande Buddha anlände till Fredrika i januari 2007. Själva statyn är inklusive sockel och fundament cirka 10 meter hög, vilket gör den synlig på långt håll.

Introduction
My PM will assume a true success story that is a close friend shared with him to me not so long ago, on a building project, which he rowed ashore. It is based on a story about how the individual from not having anything, either money or manpower, got all the people on the road to his dream of becoming involved. It ended with that, although ambassadors from different edges on the world map commitment to this development, and besides that, he was also unexpected awards for its commitment from various organizations. All my friend had at their disposal was a great idea, a vision and a dream with a good purpose, which was every single person along the journey to become involved in this idea, irrespective of the samhällsposition or cultural / religious background they came from.

Buddhistiskt meditationsretreat i Fredrika
påsken 20-25 mars 2008 med vipassana-lärare Uffe Damborg*
Fredrika är ett litet samhälle (300 inv.) 10 mil väster om Umeå i södra Lappland. Där ska Europas största buddhisttempel byggas.
På toppen av ett berg står en 10 meter hög Buddhastaty var templet ska byggas med milsvid utsikt över skog och sjö.
Här har de thailändska buddhistmunkarna funnit en perfekt plats för utövande av meditation.
Ett provisoriskt tempel har inrättats i ett närbeläget hus. Dit kan man gå på besök och meditera om man vill. Retreaten hålls i privatägda sekelgamla Jägmästargården i en vacker sal med kakelugn och tre höga fönster ut mot sjön.
Själva boendet är uppdelat på olika hus i byn. Både nybörjare och erfarna deltagare är välkomna. Meditationsinstruktioner,
dhammaföredrag och möjlighet till individuella samtal erbjuds. Retreaten hålls delvis i tystnad. Begränsat antal deltagare.  The Danish meditation teacher Uffe Damborg is a psychologist and a cognitive psychotherapist.
He works as a clinical psychologist in Copenhagen. Within the last three years he has been
conducting more than 50 workshops in stress management based on mindfulness meditation.
When he teaches traditional Vipassana as he will be doing at the Easter retreat he is following
the Burmese Mahasi Sayadaw School in which he originally was trained ( www.indsigtsmeditation.dk ).
That was some time before Vipassana became a scientifically validated technique of stress management
in the West.
Uffe spent most of the years 1968-1975 as a student of the renowned Vipassana teacher Anagarika
Mundindra at the Burmese Vihara in Bodh Gaya, India. At this time the American Vipassana teacher and
writer Joseph Goldstein was also studying with Anagarika Munindra at the Burmese Vihara.
Both of them assisted Anagarika Munindra in teaching at the end of their long stay in India.
Joseph and Uffe were also teaching together at the Vipassana Summer Retreat at Hagaberg in Södertälje
last summer with the Swedish Vipassana teacher Marie Ericsson.
Retreaten hålls på engelska.

in Fredrika, LapplandThis retreat is suitable for both beginners and old yogis. There will be meditation instructions, dhamma talks and opportunities for interviews. Language: Swedish and English as needed. Fredrika is a small village (300 inhabitants) 100 km west of Umeå. The biggest Buddhist temple in Europe is about to be built there. It is not uncommon to see saffron robed Buddhist munks in wollen socks on the streets of Fredrika. In winter the landscape is heavily snowladen and very still. The air is crisp and clean, and at night the nothern lights paint the sky in different colours. It is an ideal place for meditation. The retreat is held at the old Crown forester´s residence in a beautiful room with a fire place and three high windows facing the lake. Participants limited to 20 people. Fredrika is reached by airplane to Umeå, night train from Stockholm to Vännäs or the buss Lapplandspilen from Stockholm to Åsele. More info when you register! Register soon! She has continued to practice with many other teachers like U Pandita Sayadaw, Joseph Goldstein and Christina Feldman and has done long personal retreats in Asia, USA and England.
